At Windmill Publishing, we’re on a quest for the extraordinary — stories that whisk readers away to realms unseen and untold adventures that ignite the imagination. We believe in the power of genre fiction, especially fantasy, that dares to tread uncharted territories, blurs the boundaries between worlds, and redefines the rules of storytelling.
We are currently inviting writers to submit their manuscripts for consideration. If you’ve crafted a narrative that is unique, captivating, and genre-bending, we want to hear from you!
Why submit to Windmill Publishing?
When you publish with Windmill, you’re not just finding a platform for your story; you’re joining a family of passionate storytellers dedicated to bringing groundbreaking fiction to the forefront. We offer the following services:
Proofreading: Every accepted manuscript undergoes a thorough proofreading process by our team of editors, ensuring your work shines without losing its original voice.
Page formatting and typesetting: Presentation matters. Our design team will take care of your book’s page formatting and typesetting, delivering a polished, reader-friendly final product.
ISBN assignment: We handle the administrative details, including registering all ISBNs, marking your work ready for global distribution and recognition.
25% royalties, plus company share: We pay our writers more than most traditional publishers, and because we believe that rising tide lifts all ships we also operate closer to a co-op. This means on top of individual royalties, all writers and employees of Windmill Publishing split company profits.
What we’re looking for
We’re scouring the literary landscape for genre fiction that defies expectations. Our ideal submissions are:
Fantasy that breaks the mold: We’re particularly interested in fantasy that leaves behind the Hero’s Journey, offering readers an experience they won’t find anywhere else.
Unique genre fiction: Whether it’s a sci-fi tale with a twist, a horror story that haunts in unexpected ways, or a historical novel that time travels, we’re looking for work that stands out from the rest.
Stories that blend between genres: The more inventive, the better. If your work mixes magic with mystery, or futurism with folklore, we want to dive into your world.
How to submit
Ready to see your work in print? Here’s how to submit your manuscript to Windmill Publishing:
Prepare your manuscript. Ensure your work is complete, edited, and formatted according to standard submission guidelines.
Query letter, synopsis, and sample. Include a query with your contact information, a short author bio, and a synopsis of your work. Your synopsis should be roughly one page per 50k words, but that’s just a guideline. Also include the first 50 or so pages of your work, rounded off to the nearest chapter. If your work is less than 50 pages, send the whole thing. (Yes, we publish short stories!)
Email. Copy and paste the above—DON’T ATTACH ANY FILES—into the body of your email. The subject should be “Query: [Title], [Author Name]”. Send all emails to info [at] windmill.ink. Include the secret phrase “Surimulwar-Wilë Khribedo” so we know you actually read these rules (this is mostly to ensure no bots start flooding our inbox).
